"We're Going to Need More Wine" by Gabrielle Union
If your New Year's Resolution was to read more, you might want to start with Gabrielle Union’s new book We're Going to Need More Wine.
As the New Year quickly rolls in I realize that fellow readers may want to start with a fresh new read to indulge in. My book of choice, We're Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union, and here are the reasons why:
First, it helps that the author has a non-invasive Instagram marketing tactic, which made me compelled to grab the book to begin with. For those that don't know, Gabrielle Union is an actress and activist. Her Instagram profile not only hands you "couple goals" on a picture platter, but also grind & slay vibes in almost every post.
The second reason being that I was absolutely in love with her character on the show Being Mary Jane. Since the BET network recently decided to cancel the show, I felt the urge to continue supporting such a thought-provoking, influential, and passionate, business woman like Gab in the next best way. Yeah, after reading this book I started calling her Gab. Don't judge me.

Gab’s book made me realize that Instagram is a damn lie. We all need to stop making assumptions of others because we truly don't know how they have been able to survive all these years. She is such a great writer and provides so much insight on topics such as her upbringing in Nebraska, love life (including her current marriage to NBA star Dwayne wade), race in Hollywood, color-ism, and PRINCE! I literally did not want to finish this book because every chapter was filled with such great stories and reality checks. My favorite quote from her book which truly resonated with me is,
This book reminded me to own MY truth. To be more confident, vivacious, and secure my happiness along with my bag! Most of all, Gab encourages me not to build excuses or blames.
So if you're in the mood for reading a book that keeps it raw and real, go ahead and pick up We're Going to Need More Wine.
This book is not a memoir, but a collection of thoughts and experiences. Thoughts and experiences Gabrielle was able to share with the world -- which most people would usually choose to hide -- but as an activist, she is doing her due diligence to use her very personal experiences as an example for others to keep going.
